How dose it work:
1. Temperature Monitoring: The defrost temperature sensor is strategically positioned near the evaporator coils, which are responsible for cooling the refrigerator.
2. Frost Detection: As the coils operate, frost and ice can accumulate on their surface. The sensor continuously monitors the temperature in this area.
3. Threshold Setting: The sensor is calibrated with a predefined temperature threshold. This threshold indicates the point at which frost buildup becomes significant enough to impact cooling efficiency.
4. Initiating Defrost Cycle: Once the sensor detects that the temperature around the coils has dropped below the preset threshold, it sends a signal to the refrigerator's control system.
5. Control System Response: Upon receiving the signal, the control system responds by initiating a defrost cycle. This cycle is designed to remove the accumulated frost and ice from the coils.
6. Heating Element Activation: As the defrost cycle begins, a heating element is activated. This element warms up and starts melting the frost and ice on the coils.
Installation
Note: Before you begin, always ensure your refrigerator is unplugged to prevent electrical accidents.
1. Access the Evaporator Area: Open the freezer door and locate the evaporator coils. These are usually located behind the rear panel of the freezer compartment.
2. Remove the Rear Panel: Carefully remove any screws or clips that hold the rear panel in place. This panel covers the area around the evaporator coils.
3. Locate the Old Sensor: If there's an existing defrost temperature sensor in place, locate it on or near the evaporator coils. It's often a small cylindrical or rectangular component with wires attached.
4. Disconnect Old Sensor: Gently disconnect the wires connected to the old sensor. Some sensors might have a connector, while others might be directly wired.
5. Remove Old Sensor: Depending on the mounting method, the sensor might be clipped, screwed, or held in place by a bracket. Remove it carefully.
6. Prepare New Sensor: If the new sensor comes with wires, ensure they are of the appropriate length for your refrigerator model. Trim or extend the wires as needed.
7. Mount New Sensor: Attach the new sensor to the same location where the old one was installed. Use screws or clips as required. Make sure it's positioned close to the evaporator coils for accurate temperature sensing.
8. Connect New Sensor: Connect the wires of the new sensor to the corresponding wires in the refrigerator. If the sensor has a connector, match the wire colors and plug them in. If it's directly wired, use wire nuts or suitable connectors.
9. Secure Wires: Use electrical tape or wire clips to secure the sensor wires in place, ensuring they're not in the way of moving parts.
10. Reassemble: Put the rear panel back in place and secure it with screws or clips.
11. Power On and Test: Plug in the refrigerator and turn it on. Monitor the temperature and observe if the defrost cycle is functioning properly.
